A home for Arab citizens of Israel, the "Arabs of 48", building a new life in Canada.
In 1948, many Palestinian Arab families stayed in their towns and villages, on land their families had lived on for generations. Their children and grandchildren grew up as citizens of Israel: Arab by heritage, Palestinian by roots, fluent in Arabic and Hebrew, living between two worlds.
Arriving in Canada, that in-between place can feel lonely. Some people expect us to be one thing or the other. Community organizations often serve Israeli or Jewish newcomers, or Palestinian and Arab newcomers, and we don't always find ourselves fully in either. Questions of identity and belonging can weigh on us quietly.
We know this reality up close, because many of us have lived it.
